I did my first century ride!! :o) I am so excited. Last October I had set out to do my first century and stood up to stretch at 75 miles and fell off my bike. I have no idea what happened. I just know one second I was standing up the next second I was hitting the Natchez Trace. :o( It HURT! I got back on my bike and went four miles and just couldn't do it. The wind hitting the open wounds was too much, not to mention my elbow was swollen twice it's normal size. With all that behind me, I jumped on my bike Saturday morning at 7:30 and set out to complete the Ridgeland Century! I did it. It couldn't have been done without the help of my friends Jay and Sabrina. They would NOT let me give up. I started having some knee pain around 45 miles. At the 60 mile rest stop, I was in tears b/c I was hurting and frustrated at the thought of not finishing my second attempt at a century. A man there had Tylenol, so I took some. Then Jay suggested raising my seat on my bike. I told him Jayce, from Indian Cycle, thought I needed it raised too, so he felt better about raising it. From that point on, it was SO much better. It never hurt again after the Tylenol kicked in. :o) I guess a couple millimeters can make a difference! So, I did it I rode 100 miles (103 actually) in 6 1/2 hours!! I am so proud of myself. I am not sure my body will ever be the same after this year! A century ride and a marathon in the same year!!
It was cool though- Sabrina has run the Chicago Marathon 4 times! She was so pumped I was training for it! She talked to me about how fun it was during the times I was hurting the most. :o)
Happy training!! See y'all at the Cannonball!!

WOW!!!! That's a HUGE accomplishment. You are quite an athlete! Congratulations!
I saw the "bikers" on my way to Lakeshore & wondered if you were among them. Congratulations, you have good reason to be proud! :)
Congrats! THat is WAY AWSOME!!!
Steph - WAY TO GO !!! I was wondering if you were going to do the Century or one of the shorter rides. I guess you answered that question!
I am trying to increase my riding since I am out of the running/walking business. I guess I need to find some challenges to work toward. What is a good local cycling web site to find out about upcoming rides?
Congrats again - what a great accomplishment!
